A Broad Perspective on Infection: The Magnitude of Today’s Problem


The objectives for the session was:

    • To provide a historical overview of the incidence of hospital-acquired infections.
    • To provide an overview of current standards that can be implemented in hospitals to reduce the risk of hospital-acquired infections.
    • To disseminate knowledge about MRSA-related infections and the consequences for the hospital.
    • To disseminate knowledge about Hepatitis B and C infections and the consequences of treating hospital-based nursing and medical staff.
    • To provide an outlook on on-going research for the treatment of hospital-acquired infections.
